First the story, then the face.
Branding Agency in Amsterdam
Innovation creates greater impact when people understand it. That’s why Marsmedia exists: a branding agency in Amsterdam that has worked for twenty years with organisations rich in expertise but struggling to communicate it clearly — biotech, life sciences, medtech, sustainable tech, SaaS.
Our conviction: the knowledge a strong brand needs already exists inside your organisation. It’s just scattered — across teams, heads and documents. Our work starts with surfacing that knowledge and organising it into one foundation. Only then does the brand get a face, and a website where it comes to life.
Three hundred brands and websites later, that’s still how it works. And ninety per cent of our clients stay after the first project.

Why work with a branding agency
Nearly every brand project starts with the same discovery: the knowledge is already there. It just isn’t one story yet.
What we find at almost every kickoff: valuable knowledge about the company, the market and the customer exists in abundance — spread across teams, heads and old documents. Different departments describe the company differently.
A strong brand doesn’t start with inventing something new. It starts with organising what’s already there. That’s why our first phase is called a foundation.
The founder can tell the story perfectly — in conversation. But the moment it has to be written down, for a website or a pitch, it turns out no shared version exists.
We document that version: values, goals, positioning, clustered into one communication framework. From that moment on, everyone — sales, marketing, the new colleague — tells the same story.
The more innovative the work, the harder it is to tell simply. Brilliant founders, professors, researchers: experts in their field, rarely born storytellers. That’s not a flaw — it’s why we exist.
Simplicity creates stronger communication. Not a style preference; one of our core beliefs.
Many agencies sell a months-long strategy phase first. Our conviction is the opposite: most companies already have the knowledge they need — what they need is someone who organises it into direction in two to three weeks.
Strategy should lead to action. Otherwise it’s a report.

What we do, specifically
Brand strategy and positioning
The foundation under everything else. Through the Mars Methodology — Project Foundation, Deep Dive, Communication Framework — we surface the knowledge that already exists and organise it into direction in two to three weeks: what you stand for, for whom, and why it matters.
The deliverable is deliberately compact: the essence should fit on one page. A strategy only works when everyone can retell it — and then the real work begins.
Brand identity design
Logo, typography, colour, imagery and tone — designed as one coherent language, documented in brand guidelines your team can actually work with, communication framework included so the direction never gets lost.
What a strong identity is built from, and what it does for the people who see it, we’ve written down on our page about brand identity.
Naming, voice and story
A brand that looks right but reads wrong doesn’t hold. Where the project asks for it, we take on naming, tagline and tone of voice — the verbal system alongside the visual one.
For innovation organisations that’s often where the real work sits: saying something complex in words a reader trusts.
Brand, applied
We don’t hand over a PDF and wish you luck. The same team that designs the brand applies it — to the website, the templates, the campaign that follows.
That’s where a brand proves itself: not in the presentation, but in year two, when your team publishes something new and it still feels unmistakably yours.
“A brand isn’t what you say about yourself.
It’s what stays recognisable when you’re not in the room.”
— Marsmedia
What working with us looks like
Two to three hours, your core team and ours at one table — founder included, UX and brand included. Everything said there gets clustered into the communication framework: values, goals, convictions.
That foundation never gets lost again — it lives, literally, in the brand guidelines.
We’ve seen too many eighty-page brand strategies nobody reads. Our deliverable is deliberately compact: the essence on one page, the depth behind it, and a presentation that makes it land internally.
A strategy only works when everyone can retell it.
Not every brand needs a restart. Sometimes a refresh is more honest than a rebrand — because throwing away fifteen years of built-up recognition has a price nobody names upfront.
We’ve advised clients against a full rebrand and given them a stronger refresh instead. We’d rather have that conversation before the project than after.
The brand comes to life on the website, in the templates, down to event materials — applied by the team that designed it.
What clients tell us afterwards: “we finally understand who we are ourselves” — and that sales and marketing can work with it from day one.
“In web design Amsterdam, I enjoy strategically shaping elements to draw visitors’ attention and instill trust in their brand’s professionalism. It’s fulfilling to help clients effectively communicate their products or services through visually appealing and user-friendly designs.”

How we work
Three steps. Everyone knows what is needed, and when.
The kickoff
Two to three hours with both core teams at one table — founder included, your specialists where needed. Everything said gets organised through the Mars Methodology (Project Foundation → Deep Dive → Communication Framework) into the communication foundation, in two to three weeks.
That sets the direction. And then the real work begins.
From foundation to concepts
We translate the foundation into a small number of directions and choose together. Every design decision after that traces back to something you said — which makes it defensible, internally too, in front of a board or investor.
We apply until it lives
Website, templates, presentations, event materials — by the same team, no handover. And in the first months we watch how the brand performs in real use: a brand is never finished on delivery day.

Frequently asked questions
A branding agency shapes how an organisation is understood: the strategy behind it, the identity that makes it recognisable, and the application across website, templates and campaigns. The terms branding agency and brand agency describe the same thing.
The useful distinction is in how the work is organised: strategy, identity and application in one team — or scattered across parties, with the brand diluting at every handover.
Branding is everything that shapes how people perceive an organisation: the story, the identity, the tone, and the consistency between them. A logo is one element; branding is the system that makes every touchpoint recognisably one organisation.
Done well, it means an investor, partner or future colleague meets the same organisation everywhere — before anyone has explained a thing.
Usually at a turning point: the organisation has outgrown its identity, a new phase asks for a new story, or the communication no longer matches what the company has become.
Honesty works both ways: we’re not for everyone. We work for organisations rich in expertise with a story that matters — not B2C volume, not dropshipping. If it doesn’t fit, we’ll say so in the first call.
Short and sharp. Our conviction: most companies don’t need a three-month strategy project — the knowledge already exists inside the organisation. Through the Mars Methodology we surface and organise it in two to three weeks, into a foundation you can retell on one page.
Strategy should lead to action. Otherwise it’s a report.
The foundation stands in two to three weeks (the Mars Methodology); with identity it runs to six to ten weeks, with the website ten to sixteen. The biggest delays are rarely in the design — they’re in internal decision-making, so we plan for that from day one.
That depends on the scope: an identity with guidelines asks for different work than strategy plus identity plus website plus campaign. Early in the conversation we share an estimate per phase, so you see what each part costs before it begins.
For most organisations a brand is an investment they make every five years or more. We’d rather help you spend that budget where it makes a difference than push for the most expensive version of the work.
Both — and a refresh is often the honest advice. Recognisability is capital: a brand that spent fifteen years building what people recognise shouldn’t throw that away lightly.
We’ve advised clients against a full rebrand and delivered a stronger refresh instead — heritage kept, the rest sharpened. When the identity genuinely no longer fits who you’ve become, we say that too.
Yes — and that’s the point. The same team that designs the brand builds the website where it lives. Most brands don’t fail in design; they fail in application, in the handover to a team that wasn’t part of the thinking.
By keeping brand and website in one hand, what you approve is what goes live.
Knowledge-rich organisations building tomorrow’s world: biotech, life sciences, medtech, healthcare, sustainable tech, knowledge platforms and innovative SaaS. Organisations rich in expertise, struggling to communicate it clearly.
The common thread isn’t the sector — it’s that profile: complex value, and the need for a brand that reflects where the company stands today.
Yes. We’re based in Amsterdam, but our clients are spread across the Netherlands, Belgium, the UK, the US, China and South Africa — seven countries at last count.
For some projects we sit at the same table; for others we run alongside through shared Slack and biweekly calls. The process was built for that distance years ago.
Three things.
One: we start with what’s already there. The knowledge lives inside your organisation — we surface and organise it in weeks, not months, into a foundation that fits on one page.
Two: a deliberately compact team of seniors who’ve been doing this for fifteen to twenty years. Faster to the core, no junior learning their trade on your project.
Three: brand and website in one hand, through to application. And the proof it works: ninety per cent of our clients stay after the first project — some relationships run past ten years.
