An interactive destination experience for Aves Travel

Aves Travel is a specialist in tailor made journeys to destinations such as the Galápagos, Ecuador and Peru, with a strong focus on nature, culture and personal guidance. For their event at the Beurs van Berlage, they needed a way to present that depth and care in a clear and engaging way, both in the physical space and through an interactive digital experience.

Why the event needed more than a stand

The event at the Beurs van Berlage was more than a presentation moment. It was an opportunity to let visitors experience their way of travelling. Personal, layered and rooted in deep knowledge of destinations such as the Galápagos, Ecuador and Peru.

They asked us to help shape that experience. Not through a campaign, but through spatial design and digital interaction that would support their story during the event and continue online afterwards.

Aves Travel organises tailor made journeys with a strong focus on nature and culture. At a travel event, where many providers compete for attention, their challenge was clear. How do you create calm and depth in a busy environment. How do you guide visitors through your destinations in a way that reflects the care behind each trip.

Two elements became central to this question. Physical wayfinding that would structure the space and an interactive map that would allow visitors to explore destinations at their own pace.

From concept to production ready design

The first part of the assignment focused on the design of two wayfinding poles for the event space. These poles were not decorative objects. They were meant to function as clear orientation points within the Beurs van Berlage, while expressing the identity of Aves Travel. We designed the full concept, including the signage and technical specifications for production. The designs served as both a visual proposal and a practical blueprint for the furniture maker who would realise them.

The poles were produced in bamboo, a material choice that connects naturally to the landscapes Aves Travel works in. By translating the brand into form, material and typography, the structures became part of the narrative rather than an addition to it.

We delivered the final design files ready for production, ensuring that the transition from concept to physical object was smooth and well defined.

Building an interactive map that invites exploration

The second part of the project extended the experience beyond physical space.

Aves Travel wanted visitors to explore their destinations in an intuitive way. Not through brochures, but through a digital interface that could be used both on a touchscreen during the event and later on their website.

From structure and wireframes to CMS integration

We started by defining the structure and wireframes. How do users navigate from continent to country, and from country to specific highlights. How do we ensure clarity on a large touchscreen, while keeping the design aligned with the existing brand identity.

The final result is an interactive map that allows visitors to zoom into destinations such as the Galápagos, Ecuador and Peru. On multiple levels, they can navigate through the regions and discover photo collages connected to specific coordinates on the map.

Behind the interface, we developed a CMS structure that enables the Aves Travel team to upload images and link them to precise locations. This gives them control and flexibility. The map can evolve as new journeys are added or refined.

Clear process and defined roles

Throughout the project, structure was key. We worked with defined feedback rounds and clear deliverables for both design and development. Project management covered alignment within the team, contact moments with Aves Travel and monitoring of planning and budget.

For the production of the poles, we provided the design and technical specifications. The furniture maker handled production and finishing directly with Aves Travel. This ensured transparency in costs and responsibilities.

From event moment to lasting tool

What started as an event assignment resulted in more than temporary event design.

The wayfinding poles created a clear spatial presence at the Beurs van Berlage. The interactive map continues to live on the Aves Travel website as a tool for inspiration and orientation. Discover the map

By combining physical design and digital interaction, Aves Travel was able to present their destinations in a way that reflects how they work. Thoughtful, layered and focused on experience.
