Meet Romy, our new junior developer
Our team continues to grow, and with that growth comes new perspectives, skills and energy. Development plays an increasingly important role in the projects we build at Mars, which makes it a great moment to welcome someone new to the team.
Romy recently joined Mars as a junior developer. She brings curiosity, creativity and a strong drive to keep learning. We are happy to introduce her and share what she will be working on.
From design to development
Romy’s path into development started from a creative background. She studied Communication and Multimedia Design at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, without any prior experience in coding.
“I always enjoyed being creative,” she explains. “During my first coding course, where we had to build our own website, I discovered how much freedom code gives you. The endless possibilities really clicked with me.”
From that moment on, she increasingly focused on development, gained hands-on experience and eventually found her way to Mars.
What matters within a team
For Romy, feeling comfortable within a team is essential. Being able to ask questions and learn from others helps her grow with confidence.
“I think it’s important to work in a team where you feel safe enough to ask anything,” she says. “That’s something I already experience at Mars, which makes a big difference.”
That openness fits well with how collaboration works within our teams.
What Romy will work on at Mars
As a junior developer, Romy will focus on building and maintaining WordPress websites. She will work closely with designers and developers, contributing to projects while continuing to develop her technical skills.
It is a role that gives her room to explore different aspects of development and gradually find her own focus.
What Romy wants to learn this year
The way of working at Mars is new for Romy, and her first goal is to become fully comfortable with our processes and tools.
“I’m still discovering what I enjoy most within development,” she says. “At the moment, I’d love to grow into a front-end specialist.”
This year is about learning, experimenting and finding the direction that fits her best.
Favourite tools and creative code
Romy has a clear enthusiasm for creative JavaScript libraries.
“I’m a big fan of GSAP and THREE.js,” she explains. “With GSAP you can create really strong animations, and when you combine that with THREE.js, a 3D library, you can build almost anything you can imagine. From a solar system simulator to an actual video game.”
That interest in visual and interactive experiences brings an extra creative layer to her development work.
Outside of work
Outside of work, Romy enjoys playing video games, preferably together with her boyfriend. She also likes watching films, reading and spending time with music. Recently, she picked up her electric guitar again.
At the office, she already has a clear lunch routine.
“I’m definitely a creature of habit,” she laughs. “My go-to lunch is two slices of brown bread with cottage cheese, lettuce, chicken filet and cucumber, sometimes with avocado. Luckily, I can make it exactly the same at Mars. I’ll try to switch it up at some point.”
Looking ahead at Mars
With Romy, Mars welcomes a junior developer who combines creativity with technical curiosity and a strong motivation to grow. The coming period is about learning, exploring and building solid foundations. We look forward to seeing her develop within the team and contribute to our projects along the way.
